SAP EAM TAC-Insight meeting 3/24 – 3/26 – Houston, Texas
SAP for Asset and Service Management Americas | Home

SAP EAM TAC-Insight meeting 3/24 – 3/26 – Houston, Texas Wrap-up from EAM Conference in Houston by Jeff Smith who attended:

The 2026 SAP Asset & Service Management Conference brought together professionals from across asset-intensive industries, including utilities, oil & gas, manufacturing, chemicals, mining, and the public sector. As the first dedicated SAP EAM-focused conference held in the United States since prior to COVID, the event provided a valuable opportunity to network, collaborate, and reconnect with peers across the Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) community.

A highlight of the conference was the NASA keynote delivered by Jordan Evans, which provided powerful insights into reliability, risk management, and mission assurance. The keynote emphasized disciplined processes, failure prevention, and the importance of learning from past events—principles that directly align with reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) and modern asset management practices.

A consistent theme throughout the conference was the evolution of Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) within SAP, particularly the integration of predictive analytics, mobility, and cloud-based solutions. Organizations are continuing to move beyond traditional preventive maintenance programs toward more risk-based and reliability-centered approaches.

Utilities are accelerating efforts to modernize asset management programs, with a strong focus on aligning EAM with business objectives, improving data quality, and implementing standardized asset hierarchies. Frameworks such as ISO 55000 and ISO 14224 were frequently highlighted as key enablers for consistent and reliable data to support maintenance and reliability strategies.

Another major takeaway was the growing role of condition-based maintenance (CBM) and predictive maintenance (PdM). Many organizations are leveraging sensors, IoT, and advanced analytics to detect early signs of failure and reduce unplanned downtime. However, it was emphasized that technology alone is not enough—success depends on strong data governance, well-defined processes, and organizational alignment.

There was also significant discussion around SAP S/4HANA and its impact on asset management. Organizations shared lessons learned around data migration, standardization, and the critical importance of cleansing legacy data. Master data quality continues to be one of the most important factors for long-term success.

In closing, the conference reinforced that effective asset management is not just about systems and tools, but about people, processes, and data working together. Organizations that prioritize data quality, adopt standardized frameworks, and align maintenance strategies with business risk are best positioned to achieve sustainable improvements in reliability and cost efficiency.
