Reviewing the great content from the Energy and Utilities Conference in Toulouse, France which ran April 21-24, the conference provided insight into many topics. I saw several compelling presentations by our European utility family and learned so much about their journey. Being from both an Electric and Water utility, I appreciated the transformations and the business drivers for these utilities. Europe’s business transformations to renewables was everywhere– from EV busses in Paris to the wind farms we saw out the window on the electric TGV train from Paris to Toulouse. The challenges we all share integrating renewables was also front and center. SAP’s DER (Distributed Energy Resources) workshop highlighted both challenges and solutions. Leading utilities in both Norway and Austria shared what they are doing to allow their customers to participate in their new Prosumer role helping their utilities in running the grid. There were wonderful water presentations from multiple utilities (Brazil, Spain, and Belgium) all highlighting their deploying of interval meters into a sensor network which allows them and their customers to manage water for millions. I presented on how building community helps all of us and was welcomed by the user groups of both Germany and Switzerland at my presentation. We also found innovation and leadership with Eon (a large German utility) leading the way with both S/4 2025 FP1 and BDC implementations.
As you can see there is lots to talk about. We will be bringing the information and connections back to our North American family with a webinar on May 21st after Sapphire so we can all catch up and learn from each other.
