Networking Before, During, and After

Networking is one of the most valuable take aways from any face to face event. After years of attending these events, the one thing I can recommend is that you network before, during, and after the events. We have large teams coming from single utilities, and single attendees coming from many utilities. What’s important is that you find a peer that you can continue the conversation with. Reach out today before you go and find out who you already know that is coming to the event. Plan a meeting place to sync up and debrief about each other’s plans. Then after the conference, pick a date in November to sync back up, put it on your calendar and meet to debrief on what has happened since the conference. We will be working to help you with all three opportunities, before, during, and after.

Before: If you already have a peer network, reach out to them. If you don’t, reach out to me and I’ll help make some connections in the next 30 days so you can start networking. Tell me your topic, where you are on your journey, and I’ll find someone else that you can share with. Over the past 18 years, that was what I was doing to help my utility, and now in retirement, I’m doing it for everyone. Nothing to purchase, no membership, just agreement to share with others what you are doing and learning from others what lessons they have to share.

The application is now live, go download ASUG Events, login, setup your profile and make it public. This is a great way to start building your network before you. All speakers and sponsors are listed and as attendees move their profile to public, the list of people you can network with grows. Start today.

During – Wednesday evening 10/7. The official SAP for Utilities Welcome Reception starts at 5:00 pm. When it winds down, from 6:00 to 8:30 pm we will be at the Yard House, 849 E Commerce St, in the Shops at Rivercenter and a short walk from the hotel. Redwood Software, Onapsis, Resulting IT and Syniti are hosting. Register here. Please come join our conversations and catch up, make a new friend, go away with a follow up meeting, stay as long as you like. The point is the conversation that does not fit into a 45-minute breakout, and the connection that keeps working long after the week is over. That is how this community actually gets built.

After: We will be pulling all the great presentations that are done at the conference and working to bring those speakers and material to all of you via webinars, so be sure you are subscribed to the topics you are interested in and help others get subscribed at your utility so you don’t miss out on an exciting year-around set of communication for our utility community.

Looking forward to seeing you there. Come find us at the Yard House Wednesday evening.

Thanks,

Marc

The rest of what the community has been working on this month is on the September summary page.

P.S. If you have not registered yet, the agenda and registration are here — and current pricing ends September 21.
